  What is a refurbished item?
Difference between OEM and Retail Products
Why is the state of California requiring me to pay an additional fee?

What is a refurbished item?

Refurbished items are items that have been opened, touched, and/or returned. Do not always expect that they will include all or any accessories, documentation or retail packaging.

Difference between OEM and Retail Products

When buying retail versions of a product, you may receive additional accessories, retail packaging, bundled software and warranty coverage. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer),versions on the other hand, will contain the product and seldom include the drivers. Because they are packaged generically, you should not expect to receive any additional accessories or bundled software. OEM products best benefit system builders who don't really need any documentation or bundled accessories.

Why is the state of California requiring me to pay an additional fee?

Due to the Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2005, the state of California requires retailers and e-tailers to collect, on the state's behalf, a fee for each product covered by this law. The customer pays this fee when he or she purchases the chosen product. The fee is only applied when orders are shipped within the state of California. The main focus of this Act is to start a recycling program for computer products that contain chemicals that have been declared hazordous to our environment. If you wish to learn more about the Act, you can refer to the California Integrated Waste Management Board's website,http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/Electronics/Act2003 or the Department of Toxic Substances Control's website at http://www.dtsc.ca.gov/HazardousWaste/CRTs/SB20.html.
